这是新近去世的英国黑人诗人泽弗奈亚（Benjamin Zephaniah）与去年7月去世的著名爱尔兰光头女歌手奥康纳（Sinéad O'Connor）合作的一首歌。歌词利用了Empire（帝国）与Vampire（吸血鬼）发音之近似作为鞭挞手段。可惜网上歌词版本之间略有差异，不知孰是，其中也有待解决的疑问（主要是“我看着你的情人”一句）。查不到具体的词曲作者，猜想亦为两人合作。泽弗奈亚因憎恶帝国而拒领统治者颁给的英帝国勋章，奥康纳则憎恨英帝国对爱尔兰的压迫，这种合作也就水到渠成了。译介这首歌，权且作为对两位战士的纪念。

奥康纳是一个能够把普普通通的歌曲唱成经典的音乐奇才。但她把自己视为认真严肃的艺术家，拒绝资本主义的商业包装，干脆剪成光头。从小受虐的经历使她对天主教会层出不穷的对儿童性虐待事件怒不可遏，1992年在电视节目中当众撕毁教皇约翰·保罗二世的照片，并且抨击音乐奖典礼充斥商业主义。她在美国的音乐会拒绝美国的国旗国歌登场。在“成熟发达”，爱国主义洗脑泛滥且根深蒂固，保守教徒多于过江之鲫的美国，她的行为无异于触犯天条，招至巨量的狂怒抵制。她都作为一个孤独的战士去面对与承受，幸而也有不少进步的艺术家同她合作，给她安慰。泽弗奈亚或许也算其中一个。
