田辰山：我的老师安乐哲

——《生生不已：安乐哲与中国哲学》纪录片首映礼上的发言

【摘要】以下短文系作者在北京大学、成都市广播电视台和北京外国语大学北京中外文化交流研究基地联合举办，2026年6月3日在北大博雅国际酒店大学堂举行“《生生不已：安乐哲与中国哲学》纪录片首映礼上的“雅集共话”发言稿;颂扬了安乐哲教授为人类世界走向“一多不分优化共生体系”的学术研究精神。

今天格外高兴参加这个会!抑制不住内心的激动!想起与安老师数十年相处的种种场景，授课场景、聚会场景、交谈场景、批改我作业的场景，与我政治学导师Peter Manics在一起的场景，等等等等。

I am especially delighted to attend this meeting today! I can hardly contain my excitement. I recall countless moments spent with Professor Ames over the decades—classroom scenes, gatherings, conversations, and even the times he graded my assignments, as well as moments shared with my political science advisor, Peter Manics, and so much more.

遇到安老师，是我的幸运!是我此生重大幸事之一;影响了我后半生人生的轨迹。

从1990年算起，作为学生跟安老师已是36年了。他是多个影响我人生走向的贵人之一。

Meeting Teacher An was my good fortune—one of the most significant blessings in my life, shaping the course of my later years.

Counting from 1990, I have been his student for 36 years. He is one of 啊number of mentors who profoundly influenced the direction of my life.

出国前，我在中国已经形成了自己坚固的世界观，遇到安老师，产生的是强化我世界观的作用。

我一直有些惊讶，如果不是相遇，无论如何不会料想，在地缘、肤色、社会文化生活，政治制度等等都有如此巨大差异的地方的两个人，彼此见到，发现居然有如此相近的人世见解与是非观。

Before going abroad, I had already developed a solid worldview in China. Meeting Teacher An served to reinforce that perspective.

I've always been somewhat surprised—had we not met, I would never have imagined that two people from places so vastly different in geography, skin color, social culture, lifestyle, and political systems could share such similar views on the world and moral values.

安老师为人善良、敦厚、无私，使我常想，人性恶之说是胡说八道，是伪哲学!安老师是个难得一遇的中西比较哲学阐释家，不可求只可遇的一个“大儒”、“真儒”;让你有他不只是为自己而活，而是考虑全世界，为全人类好，为所有人而保持是非观的人。

An Laoshi is kind, honest and selfless. I often think that the theory that human nature is evil is nonsense and belongs to pseudo-philosophy! Teacher An is a rare and exceptional interpreter of comparative philosophy between China and the West. He is a "great sage" or "true sage" who cannot be sought but can be encountered; someone who makes you feel that he is not just living for himself, but considering the whole world, for the benefit of all mankind, and maintaining a sense of right and wrong for everyone.

他有家国情怀，他爱美国，爱加拿大，爱中国;体现在学术思想之中。

我有这样的观点，只有无私的人，善良的人，为了所有人的心，才可能做出高超的学术。安老师的思想，是高超的学术，是不可替代的学术!

He has a sense of “patriotism”(家国情怀). He loves the United States, Canada, and China; this is reflected in his academic thoughts.

I hold this view: Only those who are selfless and kind, and who are dedicated to the well-being of all people, can achieve outstanding academic achievements. An Laoshi's thoughts are outstanding academic achievements, and they are irreplaceable!

我其实是一个爱挑剔的人，一个人，我不看长相，不看帅不帅，不看年纪，不看什么来头，是不是大名鼎鼎，地位多高，这些我都不看;只看他说什么话，干些什么事。

Actually, I'm a very picky person. When it comes to people, I don't judge by appearance - whether they are handsome or not, their age, their background, whether they are famous or have high status - none of these matter to me. What matters is what they say and what actions they take.

很多外国人讲中国，我都看不上!什么哈佛不哈佛，耶鲁不耶鲁，我认为不少人都是瞎讲。对安老师，起初还没有太理会。他是夏大中国研究中心主任，我在他手下干活。直到有人多次跟我讲他学术观点，我才第一次读了他《通过孔子而思》这本书，他成了我的哲学硕士导师!我喜欢他的比较中西哲学阐释学方法。同时他是我政治学博士学位委员会的重要成员，我用了他的方法，写成了我的博士论文!

When foreigners talk about China, I simply can't take it seriously! Who cares about Harvard or Yale? In my experience, quite some of them are just making up nonsensical stories. Regarding An Laoshi, I didn't pay much attention to him at first. He was Director, Center for Chinese Studies at UH at Manoa and I worked under him. It wasn't until someone repeatedly told me about his academic viewpoints that I read his Thinking Through Confucius for the first time. He then became my MA advisor in philosophy! I liked his comparative Chinese and Western philosophic hermeneutics. At the same time, he was an important member of my doctoral dissertation committee. I succeeded in writing my doctoral thesis by employing his method!

他是我读政治学博士学位导师的好朋友!我的政治学导师是毛遂自荐当了我导师，我觉得导师看重我!我们是心有灵犀一点通的人!

之后又认真读了安老师的Anticipating China 《期望中国》原著，并把这本书作为我教授比较中西哲学阐释学的教材，形成了我将近四十年的学术道路方法论。

He was a good friend of my doctoral advisor in political science! My political science advisor was the one who volunteered to be my advisor. I felt that the advisor valued me! We felt that we were people who understood each other intuitively! Later, I carefully read An Laoshi’s (and David Hall’s) Anticipating China and used this book as the textbook for my course-teaching of comparative Chinese and Western philosophic hermeneutics, which later became the methodology of my academic path over the past over almost forty years.

总之，跟安老师相处，有从容、自然、舒服的感觉，他很爱他的学生，我深有体会。真觉得跟他心有灵犀一点通的感觉;听他讲授的很多文化阐释观点，听了一下能产生与自己思想融通与吻合在一起之感。

In summary, spending time with An Laoshi, one feels a sense of calmness, naturalness and comfort. He truly loves his students, and I have a deep understanding of this. I truly feel a connection with him like there's a mutual understanding; listening to his many cultural interpretation viewpoints, after listening to it, one can a sense of integration and agreement with one's own thoughts.

就讲这点吧!祝福我的导师安乐哲教授健康长寿，多多保重，不要太累!你的思想对美国很重要，对加拿大很重要，对中国更为重要，对人类世界走向一多不分优化共生体系很重要!

Let me just stop here! I wish Professor Roger Ames, my mentor, good health and a long life. Take care and don't get too tired! Your thoughts are very important for the United States, for Canada, for China, and for the development of optimizing the symbiotic system for the entire human world!
